UTMA
Also known as: Uniform Transfers to Minors Act
What it is
A custodial account that irrevocably transfers assets to a minor, who gains full control at the age of majority (18–25 depending on state).
What it really means
You are giving an eighteen-year-old a lump sum with no strings attached. Think carefully about who that eighteen-year-old is going to be.
