If you carry a Discover card, you have probably been waiting for this part. Discover merged with Capital One last year, and on July 27, 2026, the actual migration of the cards themselves started. Your Discover card is not being closed or reissued as something else. It is staying a Discover card, but you will manage it where you manage a Capital One card.

What that looks like in practice is pretty simple. At some point your account moves from Discover's website and app to Capital One's website and app. Once that happens, that is where you check your balance, make a payment, see transactions, and talk to support. Until it happens, you keep using the Discover login you have always used.

The part that is easy to miss is that this is not a flip-the-switch moment. Capital One has said the transition will happen gradually in waves from now through 2027. Not everyone moves on the same day. If you have more than one Discover card, do not assume they will move together. One can move and the other can stay put for a while, which is normal for a migration this size.

You do not need to do anything right now. The guidance from both sides has been consistent on that. Eventually you will be asked to add your Discover card inside your Capital One login, or to create a Capital One login if you do not have one. If you logged in on July 27 and nothing had changed, that does not mean you were skipped. It means your wave has not come yet.

There are two things people are watching that are still not settled. The first is what happens with rewards. There has been mention of points transfers, but no concrete detail on whether Discover points will become transferable in the Capital One system. The second is benefits. Discover has added the ability to earn extra back when you book travel through the Capital One Travel portal and when you book tickets and events through Capital One Entertainment. For now, keep both logins working, watch for the email that says your specific account is ready, and do not close anything until you can see the account live on the other side.
