Three rules for spending on practical luxury without regret.
The frame that separates the purchase you'll still be glad about in three years from the one you'll quietly resent by fall.
Rule one: cost per use, honestly estimated. Rule two: does it replace something you already spend on, or add a new line. Rule three: could you walk away from it today and not feel any different in a month.
Two out of three is usually a yes. One out of three is almost always a no. Zero is a hard no you'll be grateful for.
